According to the Idaho Transportation Department, the highway construction in Bonners Ferry is expected to end before Thanksgiving, depending on the weather conditions.

They will continue to do minor work on sidewalks and landscaping through November, but highway traffic is not expected to be stopped.

The highway has been rebuilt from Kootenai River Bridge to Alderson Lane over the last two years, with improvements such as a continuous center turn lane through town and sidewalks for pedestrians on both sides.

ITD plans the second phase of construction, between Alderson Lane and Labrosse Hill Street, to begin in 2023 and continue in 2024. The design will be similar to the recent reconstruction with the intent to better serve mobility and safety in the area.
