The location of the new bridge was chosen for better access and maintenance.

A new segment of Sand Mountain Road has been created near Naples. A new bridge was installed approximately 2.4 miles southeast of Highway 95 on Trail Creek Road and a new segment of Sand Mountain Road was constructed. The new bridge is the new beginning of the Sand Mountain Road system. Access to roads and the Beaver Lake trail remain unchanged.

Idaho Department of Lands installed the new bridge after an engineering study determined the old wooden bridge was no longer safe for large trucks and heavy equipment. The location of the new bridge is better for both access and maintenance.

While the old bridge is still safe up to the currently posted weight limit, it will be removed in the future.
