This weekend the Mirror Lake Golf Course hosted the 30th annual Flannel Shirt open. The event collected food and donations to support the local food bank.

Tournament director and founder Steve Nelson reported more than $1,000 was also raised to support the food bank. Course Managers Ralph and Julie Lotsteich matched all greens fees.

The hotly contested Chili Cookoff was won by Melanie Staples. Taylor Bradisch won a hat by making a rare birdie on the last hole. Travis Hinthorn won overall and donated his winnings back to the food bank. The “Young”est player was Patrick Young, age 10, shooting a net par in his first tournament.

Next weekend, Oct. 12-13, the Mirror Lake Golf course will have the last two tournaments of the year. “The Impossible Open” — not impossible, but difficult and a lot of fun — will start Saturday at 10 a.m. On Sunday the Reverse 9/Cross Country event will also start at 10 a.m.

Steve Nelson would like to thank everyone for their generous gifts supporting the Flannel Open and the local food bank.
