Mirror Lake Ladies' Golf Report
For closing day, Oct. 2, the Mirror Lake Ladies game of the day was the “Impossible Open.” In this game, players follow a special road map of challenging tee boxes and pin placements devilishly devised by Manager and Chief Pro Ralph Lotspeich and his grounds crew to set up, ensnare and defeat the most icy veined competitor.
Fifteen players participated, braving cold weather and frost which delayed the matches but gave us more time for strategizing before the final play of the year 2019.
Jenny Link emerged the winner with her longest drive on the fairway of Hole #7 (an incredibly long distance from the felt mat Ralph installed as the #7 tee box off U.S. 95, far above Hole #7, not to mention the entire course). Further complimenting the day, Jenny had a chip-in on Hole #5 prior to achieving the winning drive.
Other winners of the day were Julie Williams who thrived in the impossible format with a low gross of 38 and low net of 35. Julie’s chip-in on Hole #1, birdies on Holes #1 and #8, and overall low putts of 13 were a star part of her winning round. Other Impossible chip-in winners included Ruth Ann Wilson on Hole #5, Linda Hiatt on Hole #8, and Etta Mae Schneurle on Hole #5. Congratulations, ladies!
In the evening, the ladies celebrated the past season with their Awards Banquet honoring all the winners of all of the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning golf days of the season. First prize went to Gerry Ann Howlett who won the title of “Ace of Aces” for 2019. Also honored were the other four Aces of the Month: Linda Bogden, Therese Helmer, Blanche Studer, and Carrie Figgins. Honorable mentions went to the Officers: Carrie Figgins, president; Anne Bonar, vice president; Therese Helmer, secretary; and Ruth Ann Wilson, treasurer. Special Honorable Mention went to Linda Rupley and Karen English for their exceptional management of the Ladies’ Margaritaville Open Tournament in July.
The Mirror Lake ladies are planning some social get-togethers and meet and greets during the winter to reunite our golfers during the long no-golf layover and to introduce any new interested lady golfers to our group prior to the 2020 season opening. We are also planning with Ralph’s gracious assistance, to have some introductory golf clinics for lady golfers interested in joining in, meeting the ladies and participating in our golf program. We look forward to getting back together again in 2020 with our veteran lady golfers and to welcoming new lady golfers in the coming year.
We would like to thank Ralph Lotspeich and his staff and crew for their hard work, loyal support, and fantastic care of the golf course which was in superb condition this year despite the challenges of the Northwest weather, pervasive weeds, pests, equipment malfunctions, upkeep, and course wear and tear.
We are the beneficiaries of an outstanding and dedicated Manager and crew and we appreciate all the good work done for us! We hope you all have a great winter. We look forward to seeing everyone again next spring.
