Stroganoff fundraiser benefits cancer education, support group

BONNERS FERRY — On Thursday, Oct. 3, Chic-N-Chop hosted the Bonners Ferry Women’s Cancer Education and Support Group’s fifth annual spaghetti feed fundraiser, but this year there was a twist — instead of spaghetti, they served stroganoff.
Community members came together to support the group, which provides gas cards to those in Boundary County who are battling cancer, in order to assist them with getting to their appointments and treatments.
“There was a good crowd and we brought in over $1,000,” said volunteer Nonakaye Clark.
The entire meal is all donated food, so 100 percent of the proceeds went toward the Women’s Cancer Education and Support Group. Even the wait staff donated their time.
Clark expressed her gratitude for Ron Erickson, explaining that he not only donates food, but his time cooking for the event, and the use of the restaurant.
“Ron doesn’t take a cent for it,” she said.
The event was a success, with some people donating more than the suggested amount.
“The donations are always appreciated,” said Clark. “It was a fun gathering and everyone was happy.”
