The Boundary County Middle School Lady Badgers closed out the season with an individual district champion and a team title last Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Highland Golf Course in Post Falls. They competed against athletes from Timberlake, Genesis Prep, Priest River, and Kellogg, and exhibited the sort of race-day competitiveness that they have shown since the season opener at BCMS in September.

The race format at Highlands was varsity and junior varsity, with the Lady Badgers having teams in each and taking first in each. In the J.V. race, Baby DeFalco, Hope DeFalco, Elizabeth Hiland, Hannah McLeish, and Nora Young battled the hilly course to lead the Badgers to the win. In the varsity division, Brooke Petesch ran a solid breakaway race to place first with a time of 10:04. The pack of Sydney Hinthorn, Braylyn Bayer, Lilly Krejci, and Sydney Beckle followed close behind Petesch to score an impressive 19 points. Sammy Koehn and Holly Alexander also ran strong races in varsity competition.

In the boys’ race, the junior varsity team took second behind Timberlake, and in the varsity race the Badgers placed third, behind champions Timberlake and runner up Kellogg. Junior varsity Badgers had strong showings by Isaac Weaver and James Morgan, followed by a continuous Badger blue line from tenth to twenty-first places. In varsity competition, the Badgers were led by Kamen Nelson and Loren Huggins, with Wyatt Smith, Israel Johnson, Trey Bateman, Zap Andrejczak, and Max Callahan-Winkler rounding out the varsity team.

Overall, the BCMS cross country program had a year of learning and positive effort. Go Badgers!
