BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers had their chances to win last Friday night, but miscues added up and the visiting Wildcats of Kellogg came away with the Intermountain League football win.

On their second possession, the Badgers were driving, but two dropped passes — one in the end zone — stalled the drive. Late in the second quarter, Ty Bateman intercepted a Kellogg pass and the Badgers had a 14-play drive that ended when they could not punch it in with two chances from the 2-yard-line. The halftime score remained 0-0.

The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first by backing the Badgers up to their own 2-yard-line, and then blocked a punt out of the back of the endzone for a safety and a 2-0 lead. Kellogg scored again later in the third, with Tyler Oertli scoring on a reverse from the Badger 10-yard line on a fourth and four.

In the fourth quarter, when the game was still in doubt, the Badgers once again drove close to the goal line. Quarterback Teigan Banning hit Conner Callahan for an apparent touchdown, but an illegal motion penalty negated the touchdown and moved the Badgers back 5 yards.

The Wildcats put the game away with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter with a 46-yard quarterback keeper up the middle.

“Our defense kept us in the game with some big stops and creating four turnovers. We moved the ball well, we just couldn’t get it into the endzone tonight,” BFHS coach Travis Hinthorn said.

The Badgers will travel to Priest River Friday, Oct. 25, for their final game of the season.
