BONNERS FERRY — After a close loss to open its season, the Bonners Ferry boys’ soccer team regrouped the next day and topped visiting Stillwater Christian 2-0 on Friday, Aug. 30.

Carson Spencer put the Badgers (1-1) ahead with a second-half goal, then Dalin Foster scored on a penalty kick to ice the victory. Josh Beazer earned the shutout in goal for BFHS.

“Our defense locked down the very skilled Stillwater attackers, our midfielders overwhelmed the opposition and we dominated possession 80-20 in the first half, but we had the same result (0-0) at half as the day before,” Badgers coach Brycen Lunger said. “We came out in the second half looking like a team playing at state — it looked like Badger soccer.

“Carson Spencer scored about 10 minutes into the second half and our defense and midfielders were determined to not let anything through. Carson went on another breakaway about 10 minutes later and was tripped from behind to get the penalty call inside the box. Dalin foster stepped up took the PK and buried it,” Lunger added. “Josh Beazer made a handful of key saves and got his first career shutout! It was a great game and I think the team rebounded from the loss to St. Maries very strongly. The St. Maries game was kind of a wake up call to our team.”

The Lumberjacks visited Bonners Ferry for its Thursday, Aug. 29, opener and dealt the Badgers a 2-1 defeat.

After a scoreless first half, St. Maries scored on a free kick after intermission, then added another goal on a 2-on-1 situation. Foster scored the only goal for BFHS.

The Badgers return to action on Friday, hosting Orofino, before traveling to Post Falls to face Immaculate Conception Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
