BONNERS FERRY — Two goals from Makayla Mierke helped the Bonners Ferry girls’ soccer team open its season with a 2-0 home win over Intermountain League foe St. Maries on Thursday, Aug. 29.

The Badgers were back in action the next day as Stillwater Christian visited from Kalispell, Mont.

Although BFHS lost 4-1, coach Emily Winebark said she was pleased with her team’s effort against a tough opponent.

“Eika Willis scored our sole goal, assisted beautifully by Morgan Swanson,” Winebark said. “Our goal keepers and defense performed well against a very fast and tough offense.”

Emily Sanchez had 8 saves, and Mia Blackmore had 3, for the Badgers, who return to IML play on Tuesday, Sept. 10, as they travel to Kellogg.
