BONNERS FERRY — The Badger boys played a strong game on Tuesday, Sept. 3, against Priest River with a decisive victory of 6-1.

“The boys played hard against a very persistent Priest River team,” said Badgers coach Brycen Lunger. “Dalin Foster, Cody Kerstiens, Noah Walker, and Tyler Lucas have been great on defense and that continued tonight — not even allowing a shot in the first half.”

Daniel Walker and Carson Stevens scored the first two goals of the first half, followed by a goal by Ben Tadlock. Daniel Walker brought the score at the end of the first half to 4-0 with his second goal of the game.

The second half was then joined by junior varsity players, giving them a feel for the varsity level game.

“Our varsity went out and took care of business, and it was fun to watch the younger players develop and have the chance at scoring and playing in a varsity game,” said Lunger.

In the second half, Preston Mcleish brought the score to 5-0 with a goal. Priest River followed with their only goal of the game, with Ian Beazer closing out the game with a final score of 6-1.

On Sept. 10, the Badgers traveled to Post Falls and earned a 4-2 win over Immaculate Conception Academy.

“We came out fast and physical — it looked like we were on a mission,” said Lunger about the team’s Tuesday victory. “Our midfield controlled tempo and our defense shut down the immaculate attack.”

Daniel Walker, Ben Tadlock, and Preston Mcleish scored the first three goals of the game, putting the score at 3-0 after the first half.

“First goal by Daniel Walker was a rocket shot from 20 yards out that hit side netting,” said Lunger. “The second by Ben Tadlock was a replay of Daniel’s, also hitting side netting.”

Mcleish closed out the half with a goal from about 15 yards that slipped past the goalie, giving the Badgers a decisive lead. Under five minutes into the second half, Stephen Carlson scored from 12 yards out, putting the Badgers at 4-0.

“When our varsity guys take care of business like that, we get to get our younger guys some varsity experience and the final was 4-2 win,” said Lunger. “It was a great team win, with Josh Beazer having multiple saves throughout the game.”

The Badgers travel Saturday, Sept. 14, to face off with St. Maries High School at noon.
