Letter to the Editor: Moyie Springs city election

MOYIE SPRINGS: About the upcoming election

Seems there is confusion with the Moyie Springs city election.

There are 2 (two) positions open. The positions are for a term of 4 (four) years.

Four people are vying for the two positions: Doug Reoch, Deborah Rauth, Tim Narvaez, and Terry Johnson.

The Mayor resigned Sept. 3, 2019. He was elected for a four-year term in November 2017. There are 2 (two) years left in the term.

The current council can:

1. Appoint a new Mayor now or wait until after the upcoming election and the new council is “seated.” This was done in the past.

2. Important to note: the new Mayor can be any city resident! They do not have to be a council member. IC 50-608.

3. If they appoint from within the council, that leaves a council seat open.

4. That council seat is filled by any resident handpicked by the council. That person will serve until the next election.

Next regularly scheduled council meeting is Oct. 9, 2019.

However, check with the city clerk in the event a “Special Meeting” is called prior to the regular meeting.
