Badgers bring home gold, bronze in technology competition

TWIN FALLS — The BFHS Technology Students of America chapter competed at the state ITSA State Leadership Conference in Twin Falls on March 5-7, bringing home a bronze and a gold.

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a student organization devoted to students interested in technology. The TSA chapters take the study of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) beyond the classroom, giving students the chance to pursue academic challenges, technology based career development, as well as teaching them leadership.

The team of Jenna Brooks, Emily Gorino, and Raina Wright took on the Fashion Design & Technology competition and came in third place, earning them a bronze.

“Jenna, Emily, and Raina put a lot of work into their event and it is great to see them do so well,” said BFHS student, Abigail Gorton.

Gorton competed in Extemporaneous Speech, a contest where the student is given only 15 minutes to prepare a speech about technology.

“In this case, it was how TSA can strengthen a student’s communication and leadership skills.” said Gorton.

Gorton won out over her competition, earning her a gold.

“I sure did not expect to win,” said Gorton. “My brother Samuel won the same contest when our BFHS team went to Twin Falls two years ago.”
