A few thoughts on rights versus responsibility

| April 23, 2020 1:00 AM

Not since my service in the Pacific in the pre-Reagan-era Cold War have I given the doomsday clock much thought! But this pandemic is just as global! Over 1 million cases as of April 3. 2,400 dead in New York alone, yet some of our elected servants decry the stay-at-home order. What about our rights they cry? What about our Constitution?

Our rights do not include putting our fellow citizens at risk as if it were, say, seasonal allergies! I carried unknowing the Hep-C virus totally non-symptomatic for decades before it was discovered by VAMC Spokane! Supposing that had been an airborne risk, picture U.S. cases doubling weekly! Picture private enterprises permanently shuttered millions bankrupted!

If I cannot see beyond my rights, I probably shouldn’t be driving. I’d be like Skylar, RCC’s therapy dog, running into everything in front of me!

Remember friends the next victim could be you and I wouldn’t be able to attend your funeral!

Thanks for your shoulder, folks, you are in my prayers!
