Local group meets to stay fit ... mentally and physically
BONNERS FERRY — In an apparent attempt to normalize the times and stay fit, a group of women have been meeting at the Bonners Ferry Gateway Visitors Center parking lot to work out.
According to information from the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, physical activity reduces stress and anxiety.
“Scientists have found that regular participation in aerobic exercise has been shown to decrease overall levels of tension, elevate and stabilize mood, improve sleep, and improve self-esteem,” ADAA officials said in a statement.
While practicing safe distancing and personal responsibility, the fitness group appears to be on track with helping themselves, and in encouraging others to stay active.
The group has been meeting for fitness activities on Tuesday evenings at 5 p.m. for a Zumba class, and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9 a.m. for an aerobic workout.
The participants appear to be having a lot of fun and make sure to stay away from each other more than the current COVID-19 recommended distance. The music is upbeat and the general energy of the group is pleasant.
As part of a Facebook posting on the fitness meetings, the group encourages more people to join in.
The Bonners Ferry Gateway Visitors Center parking lot is located where Bonner Street and Riverside Street meet, in downtown Bonners Ferry.
