BONNERS FERRY — Gov. Brad Little has begun the slow reopening of Idaho and as of today the state is in Stage 1.

And that means, Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer said, a continued scheduling of all available appointments until social distancing restrictions are lifted.

“We will continue to maintain our driver’s license office in the same manner that we have been for the last month with a couple of revisions,” Kramer said in a press release. “We will begin taking appointments via a web portal that has just been set up on our website as well as on our Facebook page.”

While these appointments will help county residents to not have to wait in the sheriff’s office lobby, Kramer asked that if some reason residents do find themselves having to wait, that they maintain and practice proper social distancing within the lobby. Residents without internet access, can call 208-267-3151, ext. 204, to make an appointment.

“We will continue to encourage all persons able to renew their driving credentials online to please do so, as that protects you from being out in the community as well as our employees from any potential contacts,” he said.

If residents do come to the office for an available scheduled appointments, the sheriff’s office will continue to ask questions as to current illness and or fevers that they may have. Anyone who is ill is asked to please reschedule and stay home.

Kramer reminded residents that ITD has issued 90- day extensions on expiring credentials and encourages the public to use their online services.

The 90-day extensions apply to regular and commercial driver’s licenses without a hazmat endorsement. If a driver’s license expired or is expiring between March 1 and May 31, 2020, residents will have until June 30, 2020, to renew. For more information on these extensions please visit itd.idaho.gov/itddmv.

This scheduling procedure will also allow the sheriff’s office to facilitate concealed weapon holders, fingerprinting and SRO registrations.

“Thank you for your understanding in this situation,” Kramer said.
