Diversity and love are basic human rights
My name is Korinne Thomas and I’m a lifelong resident of Bonners Ferry. I’ve always lived here, this is my hometown.
I have a complaint about an opinion piece that was posted on the Bonners Ferry Herald website by a Steve Tanner. I understand it is an opinion piece and opinions always differ from one another. But for this to be posted on the city’s newspaper website is very inappropriate considering our town has claimed that everyone is welcome here. No matter the race, gender, lack of gender, sexual orientation, etc. It disgusts me and disappoints me that my hometown newspaper says something so closed-minded and so ignorant. Not only that, but for the piece to claim that it’s liberal ideology. It’s 100 percent not.
Yes, the liberal politics are more supportive of gay rights, same sex marriage, pro choice, etc. But it’s basic human rights. I should not have to worry about what my hometown thinks of me when I walk down the street with my girlfriend. Or for other same sex couples to worry the same thing. The piece was clearly written with the intent to spew ignorance and hate, instead of love and positivity that this town should be spreading.
Thank you for this opportunity to voice my concerns.
