Floyd Earl Eby, 66, of Bonners Ferry, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, July 26, 2020, doing something he loved, fishing.

Floyd was born on Aug. 26, 1953, to Fay and Janice Eby. He was the fifth child in a family of seven children. He grew up on the family farm on the Meadow Creek road. He graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1973. He had a daughter, Daphne, from a marriage of 10 years.

He spent his entire life in Boundary County except for working as a logger for two seasons in the huge spruce forests of Southeast Alaska. Sawmills, nurseries, and farms in Boundary County were also places of his employment.

Floyd was always giving a helping hand to anyone in need but primarily was known to many as a wood cutter. His great strength allowed him to load blocks of wood weighing hundreds of pounds. He greeted people with a chuckle and had a story to tell.

Favorite activities included: Making wood, fishing, spending time with family and friends, being in the mountains of Boundary County, gardening, picking mushrooms, and huckleberries. He loved to attend John Sater’s auction always looking for a bargain.

Survivors include his mother Janice Eby, Bonners Ferry, daughter Daphne (JR) Howell and four grandchildren, Spanaway, Wash. His siblings: Barbara (Howard) Stearns of Ontario, Ore., Linda (Wayne) Young of Bonners Ferry, Leonard (Edna) of Bonners Ferry, Carl (Rosemary) of Snohomish, Wash., Irene Francis Shayen, and David Eby of Bonners Ferry. Numerous nieces and nephews and dozens of cousins.

Floyd is preceded in death by his father in 1985.

A memorial will be held in Floyd’s honor at a later time due to the current virus situation.
