Congressional APP Challenge

| August 20, 2020 1:00 AM

Representative Russ Fulcher has announced in a press release he will be hosting this year’s Congressional App Challenge for high school and middle school students in Idaho’s First District.

Every year CAC challenges students to create and code original apps for a chance to win the challenge. Each winning app will be on display in the U.S. Capitol building for one year.

The mission of CAC is to inspire, include, innovate efforts around stem, coding and computer science education.

According to the website, over 250 members of Congress have already signed on to host app challenges in their districts. It is one of the remarkable bipartisan initiatives co-chaired by Rep. Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and Rep. French Hill (AR-02).

The CAC accepts computer programs written in any programming language and built for any platform (desktop, PC, web, mobile, raspberry pi, and many more).

The challenge’s portal is currently open until the deadline of Oct. 19, 2020. November will be the judging period, and in December, winners will be announced.

District one winners will be selected by a panel of judges drawn from the local community. Rep. Fulcher will also feature the winning app on his official website.

The CAC was created because Congress recognizes the importance of STEM and computer-based skills; these skills are essential for economic growth and innovation.

To maintain American competitiveness in STEM, Congress hopes to encourage youth to acquire valuable skills in an ever-changing job market.
