Catherine Lula (Hobbs) Schauble, 90 Catherine Lula (Hobbs) Schauble, 90
Cathy Schauble peacefully entered her heavenly home on Aug. 20, 2020, at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene.
Cathy (Cass) was born March 20, 1930, in Bovill, Idaho, the 11th of 12 children of Dudley Warfield and Nellie Gertrude (Ross) Hobbs.
Cathy moved to Spokane, Wash., and worked at JC Penney when she met the love of her life, Milton — who was, at the time, employed at another JC Penney. Milton and Catherine were married at St. Aloysius Church in Spokane on June 24, 1950. Cathy became a devout Catholic and was an inspiration of her faith becoming Godmother to many young ones baptized in the Church.
She and Milt moved to Missoula, Mont., in 1952, then to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in 1959 where Milt managed the JC Penney store for 39 years, retiring in 1985. They raised nine children: two sons followed by seven daughters born between 1951 and 1968.
During her years in Bonners Ferry she was a homemaker and participant in her children’s school, 4-H, Cub Scouts and church activities. She was an active member of the Bonners Ferry Art Club and St. Anne’s Altar Society. She held several jobs through the years including Deputy for The Boundary County Sheriff’s Office.
She was an accomplished self-taught artist and created an impressive catalog of hundreds of oil paintings. She enjoyed pinochle, board games and fishing as well as flower and vegetable gardening; canning a cellar full of fruits and vegetables each summer. She was a skillful cook, seamstress and crafter and hosted many gatherings for friends and relatives. She was truly an amazing person with endless talents and abilities.
In 1992 Cathy and Milt moved to Post Falls, Idaho. In their retirement years they enjoyed traveling and spending time with their 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During this time she wrote voluminous poetry, winning awards with the International Society of Poets.
Her quick wit and kind, engaging personality brought smiles and sunshine to everyone she encountered, including those at Creekside Memory Care in the month before her passing.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bryan, Wilson, Bernard, Delbert and Stanley Hobbs; sisters Evelyn, Bessie, Hazel, Beulah and June; grandson, Michael Kendall and great-granddaughter Ashley Marie Schauble; Mother and Father-in-law Robert (Mary) Schauble; Sister-in-law Elizabeth (Ray) DeLong; brothers-in-law John, William, Don, Philip, Rollin and Albert Schauble and son-in-law Duane Primozich.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 70 years, Milton; sons David and Jeffrey; daughters Christine, Elizabeth, Victoria, Margaret (Bill Thibeau), Mikele (Paul Bruner), Becky and Rachelle (Todd Smith); Brother Duane (Bobbi) Hobbs; brothers-in-law Philip (Maureen) Schauble and Joseph (Carolyn) Schauble and sisters-in-law Dorothy, Frances, Colleen, Marge and Betty; grandchildren Sheila, Angela, Shayna, Amanda, Sara, Olivia, Jennifer, Stefanie, Scott, Jeffrey, Erin, Brandon, Travis, Miranda, Lynda, Lisa, Brianna, Dustin, Kendra, Casey and Brenan; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cathy enjoyed a long, well-lived life. We are forever grateful for the gift of time we spent with her and will treasure the special memories she has left for us to keep. Long ago she dreamed of flying (she even started flight training back in 1946). This Angel finally earned her wings!
A Funeral Mass for Catherine will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 919 E. Indiana St. in Coeur d’Alene. Social distancing, masks, NO social afterward. Due to COVID-19, visitation is limited.
