Winterizing your windows
Bonners Ferry — Looking to save on winter heating bills? Here is a community suggestion from Brian Hengel Lentz.
If you have large windows in the living room like Lentz, there is a way to reduce your expenses.
A prevalent issue is the cold air entering through the windows and cracks within the windows.
“Even the new double-pane windows pass a lot of cold air into the room this time of year,” Lentz stated.
Lentz suggests using a slab or thick rigid foam insulation and cuts it to fit your windows. Then cover all the edges with metal foil tape to cover the cut foam.
“I cover the front & back with self-adhesive wall- or shelf-paper for looks,” Lentz said, “Then I add fabric that I like on the inside surface.”
The DIY window plugs will help keep the cold out and save you money on your heating bill.
