Bart Allen Klaus

Bart Allen Klaus, 51, passed away Oct. 18, 2019 at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene surrounded by his family. He had been ill for several weeks.

Bart was born Oct. 17, 1968, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Donald L. and Phyllis J. Klaus. After his parents divorced in 1971, he moved with his mother and brother, Michael, to Coeur d’Alene. His mother was remarried to Gary Jansen in 1975, and the family moved to Bonners Ferry shortly afterward.

Growing up, Bart enjoyed all kinds of activities — hiking, fishing, and camping. He loved living in North Idaho and enjoyed the outdoors all of his life. Even as a young boy, Bart was good at “fixing” things — cars, lawnmowers, radios — almost anything. He was always willing to help out someone who needed something fixed.

After high school he went to work in construction. Many of his working years were spent at Bonners Ferry Glass. More recently he was a general contractor. He took pride in doing a good job for anyone he worked for. He cherished the time he spent with his wife and family.

Bart is survived by his wife Monica, children Renee Liebfried and Thomas Klaus, step-children Craig Bilbo and Taylor Tompke, Steven and Matt Ernst, grandchildren Josh and Stevie Liebfried, Craig Jr., Jack and Waylon Bilbo. Bart is also survived by his mother and step-father, Phyllis and Gary Jansen of Bonners Ferry, and his father Donald Klaus of Lewiston, Idaho, siblings Michael Klaus, Daniel Jansen, Shawn Klaus, Gerald Klaus, Lonnie Walkup, and Sheri Hirst; and several nieces and nephews.

Bart will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and son; and a good friend to many.

A celebration of Bart’s life will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, 158 Meadow Creek Road, Bonners Ferry on March 7, 2020, at 1 p.m.
