Steve Foust

July 1, 1949 – Feb. 12, 2020

Steve Foust made his debut on this earth on July 1, 1949 — blazing the trail of parenthood for Mike and Helen Foust in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. A few years later he was joined by brothers Tom and Tim Foust and together “the Foust boys” were always up for a good time.

Steve was a born leader and led his peers at Bonners Ferry High School as class president. He was also very quick on his feet and held records for the track and field team; he led the football team to many victories; and he dominated the basketball court.

After a successful high school career, Steve traded the quiet streets of Bonners Ferry for Spokane, Wash., where he played football for the Whitworth Pirates, graduating with a BS in Political Science.

Post college, Steve held a variety of careers, working for several large companies as a director of operations. His eager smile, sparkling blue eyes and quick thinking made him a vital employee for anyone who worked with him. His career and passions moved him to many states over the years, including Washington, Arizona, Ohio and Texas. He eventually found his way home to the mountains of North Idaho — where he spent his final years.

The legacy Steve was most proud of were his four children — Terrah Foust Emmingham (Marilyn Simchuk), Chad Foust and Char Wolf (Renita Foust), and Mikenzie Foust (Jini Foust). You can only imagine how his pride grew as the family grew and his boastful stories of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were heard by many.

Steve passed away peacefully with his family at his side and the love of the Lord in his heart. His strong belief in the Lutheran Church was not only with him during his fight against cancer, but every day he took a breath. We are grateful for the support of everyone at Christ our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where Steve was an elder and popular Sunday visitor.

All are invited to join the family in a celebration of Steve’s life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, at 41 South — a restaurant and a view he always enjoyed.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bonner County Food Bank. Nothing upset Steve more than knowing children were going hungry. Let’s do our part in his honor to fill a plate.
