The Kootenai Tribe has informed the public the sturgeon in both hatcheries have been secured and in clean, safe water since the derailment of the BNSF train. Their project of preserving and reintroducing the sturgeon into the Kootenai River has been one of great success.

This photo, taken on June 26, 2009, is of Austin Kemmis, who was a guest on the tribal hatcheries’ boat while the crew was fishing for brood stock. Austin is the great-great-great-grandson of Jesse and Anna Peterson, for whom the Peterson Hill is named.
