BONNERS FERRY — June 12 was the grand opening of Holliday Hills Medical Massage and Spa, located next to the Far North Coffee Shop at 6811 Main St. Suite B.

The business is owned and operated by two friends, Holliday Hill and Kaitlyn Pestorino.

Hill is a licensed massage therapist in Bonners Ferry, specializing in Swedish style massage, sciatica issues, and deep tissue massage. A former employee of Great Northern Family Chiropractic, where she worked as a massage therapist, Hill was approached by her friend, Pestorino, and asked if she wanted to go into business together.

The two partners launched their massage business prior to the location they are in now, by working in beauty salons as an added service that they said didn’t really work out very well, so they recently moved into the new location and opened shop.

“Our full business name is Holliday Hills Medical Massage and Spa,” said Pestorino. “So our ultimate goal is to have a building where we could do two different things where Holliday is doing massage over here and we would have a whole spa on the other side doing that.”

Holliday Hills Medical Massage and Spa offer two kinds of massage genres; relaxation massage and medical massage.

“Medical Massage is more where you look for a change in something; like when someone comes in with limited range of motion, or when it hurts when they put a shirt on, then I would really focus on the shoulder, do different techniques do deep tissue, trigger point, dealing with connective tissue, guided stretches and stuff and at the end of all that I am looking for improvement,” explained Hill.

What makes medical massage therapy different from relaxation massage is that the massage therapist will focus efforts on a particular medical diagnosis as part of a treatment plan with medical benefits to achieve improvements for a variety of maladies.

“My plan is to be more advanced with medical providers to be a part of a care team, but right now I just communicate with physicians,” said Hill. “My license is from North Idaho Massage Academy, in Sandpoint, a 930-hour program.”

The Medical Massage component to the license is an online course that Hill had completed, which took her an additional three months.

“I am a part owner in the business,” said Pestorino. “I do everything else besides massage, I do books, taxes, advertising, decorating, contacting for anything and everything; we are working on getting billing with insurance. That’s our next big step.”

The business has a variety of specials and rates at this time. Military and veterans, seniors, and first responders are offered special rates on massage and therapy.

A free consultation is available to new clients.
