Mind Your Wake boater outreach campaign launched by Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation

| July 2, 2020 1:00 AM

The Idaho Department of Parks & Recreation has initiated the Mind Your Wake boater outreach campaign to help educate the boating public about how a boat wake can impact shoreline property owners, swimmers, and other boaters.

Complaints concerning wakes from wake boats and other vessels have increased around the state, and IDPR has designed their education campaign to encourage all boaters to boat responsibly with other people in mind.

To boat responsibly, boaters should:

• Stay at least 200 feet away from the shoreline and docks or other structures.

• Keep music at reasonable levels. Sound travels well over water — if it’s loud enough to hear at 80 feet back, it’s loud enough for homeowners to hear, too.

• Minimize repetitive passes on any one portion of shoreline. Once you’ve run the same line for a while, move on to another area.
