Defending its nest

Dan Garber of Inman, S.C., captured this amazing photo recently at the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge. “Having read the article about the Bullock’s oriole in your latest edition, I thought you might be interested in this picture I took out at the refuge of a Bullock’s oriole defending its nest from a bald eagle,” Garber wrote in an email sharing the photo. “I used to live just across the line in Montana and spent countless hours out at the refuge.
