Because of the school closure and athletic cancellations, Bonners Ferry Badger cheerleaders were unable to compete at the state level or host their annual cheerleading awards ceremony.

However, Andria Hedrick said she would still wanted to recognize the outstanding work the team has accomplished throughout the 2019-20 cheerleading season,

The 2019-2020 cheer team includes: Katie Summerfield, Ember Allred, Bella Sims, Nevaeh Elliston, Shay Richards, Hailey Kelsey, Carrie Runyan, and mascot/team manager Elizabeth Bourassa.

“The team votes as a whole for their individual awards,” Hedrick said. “Although a few of the award categories were unbelievably close, we are honored to announce [them].”

Individual BFHS Cheer Team awards went to:

• Most Improved: Ember Allred

• Most Dedicated: Katie Summerfield

• Most Spirit: Katie Summerfield

• Most Diligent: Hailey Kelsey

• Best Facials: Bella Sims

Many of the cheer team earned their varsity letter this year. Earning the honor were Katie Summerfield, Isabella Sims, Ember Allred, Hailey Kelsey, Nevaeh Elliston, Shaylynn Richards, and Carrie Runyan.

To earn the varsity letter, cheer team members must attend 80 percent of football/basketball games or compete at the district competition, and complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service.

“Most of the students completed well over their 10 hours and I’m so proud of them for giving back to their community,” Hedrick said.

Earning her JV letter was Elizabeth Bourassa.

“When dance team was unable to finish their year, Elizabeth joined the cheer team as Buddy Badger and team manager for the remainder of the season,” Hedrick said.
