Property tax deadline nearing

| June 11, 2020 1:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — Boundary County Treasurer Susan M. Larson would like to remind all Boundary County taxpayers that the deadline for paying the second half of the 2019 property taxes without penalty is Monday, June 22, 2020, due to June 20 falling on a weekend.

Reminders were mailed in May for delinquent taxes (if any) and the second half of the 2019 taxes. After June 22, per Idaho Code, a 2 percent late charge and interest of 1 percent per month will be added, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2020, on the second half of the 2019 taxes.

This year, Larson said the county is encouraging taxpayers to mail in tax payments, pay online or over the phone. If you must pay in person, the Idaho Supreme Court is requiring masks to be worn in the Courthouse; also due to social distancing rules, only one patron at a time will be allowed at the counter. Please be patient and allow for extra time to complete transactions.

Tax payments can be made in person using check, cash, debit or credit card (convenience fees are charged on all debit/credit card usage by the processing company) at the Treasurer’s office in room 27 of the Boundary County Courthouse is located at 6452 Kootenai St., Bonners Ferry. Office hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tax payments can be mailed to the Boundary County Treasurer, P.O. Box 218, Bonners Ferry, ID 83805. Mailed payments must be postmarked no later than June 22 to avoid penalty.

Credit cards and other payment options are available online, these services also incur a “Convenience Fee” by the processing company. Please visit the Boundary County Treasurer’s page http://www.boundarycountyid.org/site-page/pay-online for more information.
