A unique sendoff for the BFHS Class of 2020

BONNERS FERRY — Pomp and Circumstance. While this traditional music was not played during Bonners Ferry High School’s Saturday, June 6, ceremony, organizers and school district professionals attempted to instill tradition within this very untraditional event.

Students and family were permitted to drive to the site, and get into the line of vehicles. Graduates and family were to stay in their vehicles until the group of vehicles were escorted to the high school at 10:40 a.m.

Families and students dressed their vehicles up with balloons, signage, and all manner of celebratory items. The line up looked like a festive parade, and spirits were bright during this cloudy Saturday.

Once at the high school, families drove in the line up with their students. The student, with one family/guardian member, was allowed to exit the vehicle to walk to receive their diploma cover and take a photograph. After receiving the diploma, the student and family/guardian returned to their vehicles and left the school grounds.

Despite the tribulations and strangeness of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting stay-at-home order as it related to the high school graduation tradition, all in attendance appeared to take these moments to celebrate the students’ accomplishments, memories, and focused on looking toward the future.
