BONNERS FERRY — The Boundary County Human Rights Task Force has been recognized by the Pacific Northwest Conference (United Methodist Church) Board of Church and Society with its 2020 Martin Luther King Jr. Award as part of its Peace With Justice program, has recognized the with its 2020 Martin Luther King Jr. Award.

“This award is given to a nominated person or organization within the geographic bounds of our community that we believe best expresses the commitments to human dignity, social justice, and respect for all people that were embedded in Dr. King’s life and legacy,” the group said in a letter to the task force. “The nomination we received did a remarkable job of naming the work for racial, cultural, and religious inclusion that the Task Force has pursued in these times that are too-often anti-Black, anti-immigrant, and in too many ways rooted in bias and fear. We thank you for this work, and ask that you extend to the Task Force the deep appreciation of the United Methodist Church in Idaho and Washington. “

Boundary County Human Rights Task Force officials said they were thankful to receive the award.

“We are honored to be acknowledged and thank all the Boundary County residents who, since our beginning in 1986, have joined us in affirming the dignity and worth of each human being and promoting justice and equality for all persons,” they said in a press release.

The Task Force welcomes new members and can be found on Facebook.
