Dan ‘Danny’ Keith Miller Dan ‘Danny’ Keith Miller

| June 18, 2020 1:00 AM

Dan “Danny” Keith Miller passed away Friday, June 12, 2020, at home at the age of 70.

Dan was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Charles and Ruth Miller. Born prematurely at home as the 16th of 17 children, without the aid of a midwife, and weighing less than 3 pounds on the kitchen scale, his mother placed him in a shoebox on the warm oven door to act as an incubator. The home remedy worked and Dan went on to be raised on Camp 9 Road, attending school in Boundary County before enrolling in North Idaho College for auto body in 1970.

Later, Dan worked in logging, including driving the infamous McLeish purple dinosaur logging truck for a time before becoming the boiler room operator at WI Sawmill for many years until their closing.

He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Many summers he could be found camped up the Yaak panning for gold (without any luck), or in the middle of a lake with his sailboat tied to the wench of his tractor to tow himself back to shore.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Miller; sisters, Penny Robinson, Eileen Burley, and Lavina Miller; brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Bob, Leonard, Floyd, Paul, John and Clifford. He is survived by his long-time companion, Wendy Thurman; his children with his previous wife, Ruth, Joe, Julie and Teresa Miller; sisters, Loise Mason of Longview, Texas, Kate Roberts of Culdesac, Idaho, and Carole Wyatt Nystrom of Bonners Ferry; brothers, Jerry of Seattle, and Joe of Australia; and grandchildren, Christopher and Connor Miller, Brandon Stevens, Justice Shands, Jada Miller, Jasmine, Jessica and Jasper Chapman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A service to honor Dan’s life will be held at a later date.
