John Bradley Standal, 73, passed away on May 21, 2020, at his home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. A service is to be held at 1 p.m. July 18, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6784 Cody St., Bonners Ferry.
He was born Jan. 30, 1947, in Fargo, N.D., to Olaf Martin Standal and Gladys Berglot Severson.
He met his future wife, Karen, at the University of North Dakota where he was studying political science. After graduation, he taught at the high school in Minot, N.D., and spent summers working with U.S. Customs.
John was a man of many talents and interests. Karen and John have been married for 51 years. While working at the U.S. Customs Port from Pembina, N.D., he also acted as mayor of the town. He was dedicated to his job as port director for U.S. Customs and Border Protection for more than 36 years. He retired Jan. 3, 2008, as the Port Director of Eastport, Idaho.
John and Karen were blessed with four children, Kristen Rowan of Great Falls, Mont., Katherine Croffoot of Hayden, Idaho, Kelley Standal-Johns of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and James Standal of Portland, Ore. His grandchildren are Johnathan Moseley and Mikayla Mosele
John loved his family and enjoyed his work.
