Biden wins statewide presidential primary
BONNERS FERRY — By a narrow margin, Boundary County voters opted for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders in Tuesday’s Democratic presidential primary, according to preliminary results released by the Boundary County Clerk’s office.
Sanders received 200 votes to 196 for former vice president Joe Biden, who was the winner statewide and in several other states conducting primaries on Tuesday. U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii was a distant third, with six votes.
Other Democratic candidates on the ballot, including Elizabeth Warren, Mike Bloomberg and Pete Buttigieg, received a few votes but have withdrawn their names from consideration for their party’s nomination.
Among Republicans, President Donald Trump was marked on nearly every ballot, with 1,168 primary votes. Bill Weld received 19 votes and Joe Walsh 17.
Don Blankenship received six out of the 10 Constitutional Party voters in Boundary County.
Overall, 1,681 ballots were cast out of the county’s 6,383 voters, a turnout of 26.34 percent.
