Surprenant seeks your support
My input on the current situation regarding the Covid virus and Governor Little’s plan for reopening. Some of you will agree and some of you won’t, but I can tell you this, I have talked to people in the healthcare industry and this thing is not going away for several years. That is if it does not mutate, if it mutates, we could be looking at a lot longer.
So, do we live in fear? Do we keep shutting everything down when it resurfaces? The answer is a resounding NO.
We can’t. We might not see the complete repercussions of this shut down for a year to 18 months. Even then our country is going to be paying for this for decades.
Now bringing this discussion full circle, let’s come back to this re-opening in 4 phases. This isn’t wise or practical. Take a look around when you are out and about. To me it looks like other than some light traffic things are going on as normal, kids are out playing, people are still gathering, families are going to the store, for the most part our region is still functioning.
We all put ourselves at risk of catching this virus by doing these things and even stopping to get gas or running into the convenience store to grab something to drink.
The only exception to all of this is the businesses that are closed; this list of essential and non-essential businesses is just foolish. I don’t think I am anymore at risk of catching the disease while getting a haircut then I am while going to the grocery store.
I see plenty of businesses that are open which are far from essential and I am happy for them that they have not been forced to close and face the same consequences as say, restaurants. There is no reason what so ever other than control to not just open everything. I for one am ready to get back to living my life and not looking like Grizzly Adams or like I’m trying to be a long haired rock star (although that would be cool).
Let’s all demand that Governor Little let us get back to living our lives. I have more thoughts on this and what should have been done in the first place and will continue daily to add to this discussion. Elect Aaron Surprenant for County Commissioner District 2.
