Boundary County Jail gets high marks from state

BONNERS FERRY — The Boundary County Sheriff’s Office recently received the good news that the jail has once again met the Idaho Jail Standards to receive a recommendation for a 2020 certificate of compliance, Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer said in a press release.

A comprehensive jail inspection is done each year to see if the jail meets required standards along with standards selected by ICRMP which insures the county jail for their underwriting purposes. Failure to comply with these standards may change the terms of the county’s insurance coverage with ICRMP, Kramer said.

Among the standards included are a public health inspection, review of policy and procedures on inmate medication, head counts, inmate classification and inmate personal hygiene, which all reflected that the Idaho Jail Standards were met. Other areas include staffing, training and staff development, fire safety and emergency procedures, inmate observation and security checks, searches, health care services and the physical facility among others.

The report found that the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office jail met all the ICRMP standards and all the mandatory Idaho Jail Standards, said Kramer.

“I’m especially proud of Detention Sgt. Jeff Hoff and all the detention deputies who have continued to work so hard in meeting these standards,” Kramer said.

The jail met all the required certification standards for the first time in 2017 during Kramer’s first year in office and has continued to be certified each year since.

“It has been a team effort working together to make this possible,” Kramer said.
