Class of 2020 will have unique sendoff
BONNERS FERRY — Bonners Ferry High School graduation will be held June 6 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds, Boundary County School District Superintendent Jan Bayer said in a press release.
The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. and will be live-streamed and recorded. For this year’s graduation, students and family will be permitted to drive to the site, and get into the line of vehicles. Graduates and family must stay in the vehicle until the group of vehicles are escorted to the high school at 10:40 a.m., Bayer said.
Once at the high school, families will be instructed to park. The student with one family/guardian member will be allowed to exit the vehicle to walk to receive the diploma cover and take a photograph after which the student will be allowed to walk to pick up the diploma from a staff member. When this has been completed, the student and family/guardian will return to their vehicle and leave the fairgrounds.
The Boundary County Middle School promotion ceremony will take place on June 4 with a time yet to be determined. Much like the high school graduation procedure, the students and family/guardians will line up in their vehicles at the middle school parking lot. The vehicles will be instructed to drive behind the school to the front of the middle school where students and parents/guardians will exit their vehicle to receive a promotion certificate, then return to their vehicles and exit the school grounds.
According to the press release, the fifth-grade promotion ceremony has not been scheduled yet.
Bayer also said all full-time Boundary County School District staff will be returning to school on Monday, May 18. For those students who are at risk of not passing or need additional help or to finish up projects before the end of school, teachers will be available, in person, to help. However, there are a few rules.
Following the social distancing recommendations, no more than 10 people will be allowed in any one room at the same time and all in-person support will be by appointment only, and all rooms utilized will be deep cleaned and disinfected each day.
Students or parents/guardians are to schedule the time needed with their teachers and elementary school students will need to have a parent/guardian present with them. Staff may also be wearing gloves and masks as recommended.
The press release also honed in on some very important high school graduation information as well as middle school promotion ceremony information.
For those students who will be attending Summer School, the press release stated that schedules will be released next week. A paraprofessional will be on site at the school for three days per week to help those students who may need it. Summer School students will be at the school for twelve hours per week and the school will ensure that no more than ten students will be located in a room at any time.
The district press release reports that schools will not be opening for school sponsored activities until Governor Little’s Stage 4 reopening plan begins. The projected Stage 4 date is June 13. When the schools are open for activities, families will need to sign and agree to a liability waiver to participate.
