BCMS announces 8th grade celebration
BONNERS FERRY — When Bonners Ferry Middle School students are promoted to high school on Thursday, June 4, the ceremony won’t look like it has in the past due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
BCMS Principal Kevin Dinning said the school is doing its best to celebrate its eighth grade students, however, the pandemic and strict guidelines outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Panhandle Health District means typical end-of-year events will be abbreviated.
Under the plan approved by the health district, each eighth grade student and their family drives to the front of the middle school at 5 p.m. Students will then will be able to step out of the vehicle to receive their promotion certificate and BCMS staff will be lining the front of the school, with proper social distance, to congratulate the students.
“We are disappointed that we will not be able to send off our [eighth grade] students with a full celebration, but we are grateful to be able to host their promotion in any way possible,” Dinning said in a press release.
Dinning offered his thanks to the community for its continued support. “It has been a team effort to wrap the year up, and we are grateful for the many support systems this school district and community offers,” he said.
While the school has an “extremely long list of people to thank,” Dinning said BCMS officials wanted to publicly recognize Jerry Jimenez and Kevin Schnuerle for their commitment to the middle school facilities. “If you see them, please, let them know how grateful we are to have them at BCMS,” he added.
Incoming sixth, seventh and eighth grade students are asked to go to the school’s website at https://bcms-bcsd-id.schoolloop.com to complete elective course surveys for next school year.
Anyone with questions or concerns are asked to call the BCMS office at 208-267-5852.
