Petesch, Abubakari named to All-IML volleyball team
Bonners Ferry — Two members of the Bonners Ferry High School volleyball team were selected to the 3A All-Intermountain League team.
Junior Sierra Petesch and freshman Asha Abubakari stood out in the eyes of the league's coaches. The girls were nominated by the opposing coaches in the IML, and their own coach was not allowed to vote for them.
Petesch maintained a 98% serving percentage this season. A middle hitter, her strengths were hitting and blocking, as she led the team in both categories.
Abubakari played outside hitter for the Badgers. She was a consistent all-around player and maintained high stats in hits, kills, serves and digs.
"These two girls are hard-working at every practice and thrive to get better every day," said head coach Kendra Maas. "They go above and beyond on and off the court. I am very proud of them both. They deserve to be recognized for their hard work. I am excited to see them grow as athletes for next year."
Both Petesch and Abubakari play volleyball in the offseason with the Mountainside Volleyball Club in Sandpoint in order to gain more experience and playing time. They look forward to next year's volleyball season for the Badgers and representing BFHS.
