100 Years Ago

The largest confiscation of intoxicating liquor made in Boundary County since the enactment of the “dry” law took place at Eastport. The Collector of Customs took in 64 cases of liquor found in a box car.

Three masked men held up 14 men at Beardsmore Camp No. 3 on Pack River and robbed them of a total of $500. The men at the camp were playing cards when the hold-up occurred.

The Boy Scout movement was brought to the attention of the Commercial Club by Rev. A.H. Morton. He believes that at least three scout troops of 30 members each can be organized in Bonners Ferry.

Waterfowl hunting is expected to be excellent for duck but poor for geese, as the Kootenai Refuge public hunting season nears. Approximately 7,000 ducks and 2,000 Canada geese are present on the refuge.

Bear Creek Mining is receiving enthusiastic attention, as they have filed six new mining claims. The claims were made in the Boundary Creek area, on Buck and Middle Mountain, bearing the names, “Suds” and “Iron Streak #1.”

The BFHS Badgers thrashed the Wallace Miners by a nearly 30 point margin. The Badgers scored seven touchdowns, and had 267 yards rushing and 84 yards passing. It was a Badger victory!

Natural gas pipes at Bonners Ferry High School, Boundary Co. Middle School and Valley View Elementary are being tested to assure the community they are safe.

Panhandle State Bank is inviting the public to have lunch and help BFHS get new lights for the football field on Friday.

Bonners Ferry remains undefeated in IML play with a win over Priest River.
