Patricia Marek, 81

| September 3, 2020 1:00 AM

Patricia Marek of Naples passed away peacefully in the early morning of Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, from complications of advanced cancer, with her family by her side.

Pat was born in Queens, New York, on April 26, 1939, to Anna Mae and Daniel Hurley. She attended Pratt Institute studying interior design. She met and married Frederick Marek in New York City in 1969. After the birth of their two children, Kathryn and Jennifer, they made a number of relocations to Michigan, Tennessee, and California.

In 2001, Pat and Fred fell in love with a piece of property in Naples on Peterson Hill. There, they designed and built their dream retirement home. After years of relocating for jobs and school, they made their forever home.

Pat was an avid reader, miniature-maker, history buff and animal lover. She loved the wildlife and the mountains around Northern Idaho, as well as the people and the community of friends she made. Her sense of humor, practicality, and easy affection touched all of those around her. She was sweet and salty and full of flavor, like the best kind of chocolate.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Kathryn of Naples, Idaho; her daughter, Jennifer of Oakland, Calif.; and her beloved cats, Milo, Penny, Westley, Jimmy, and Charlie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Second Chance Animal Rescue in Bonners Ferry.
