New Medicare Plans Coming to Boundary County
BONNERS FERRY — Currently, the Federal Medicare program covers 80% of a beneficiary’s healthcare costs for medical care; the beneficiary is required to pay the 20% difference and prescription drugs.
Historically, Boundary County only had one insurance option for Medicare recipients; a medicare supplement plan and a prescription drug plan. The current medical option can be expensive, but this will change soon.
For the upcoming year, Boundary County residents will have access to new plans; Two of the new medicare plans include prescription drug coverage and a medicare plan designed for veterans.
Some Medicare plans will include additional healthcare benefits such as dental, vision, fitness memberships, and over-the-counter items.
According to United Healthcare representative, Lynn Bryan, she will be hosting ten events in the community during the Medicare annual open enrollment period from Oct.15-Dec. 7.
The informative enrollment sessions will provide Medicare recipients with Medicare education, personalized coverage reviews, and enrollment assistance.
