Joey Brewer softball tournament raises over $27,000
BONNERS FERRY — The family of Joey Brewer, a local Bonners Ferry resident and two-time cancer survivor currently battling cancer for the third time, raised over $27,000 this past weekend through the Joey Brewer Benefit Tournament.
The silent auction and raffles throughout the weekend raised over $11,000, Compass Grille raised over $900, and cash donations, team fees/sponsorships and generous community donations raised over $15,000.
Turnout for the event was massive, as so many people showed up there wasn’t enough room on site for everyone to park. After a week of smoky weather and poor air quality, the smoke slowly left just in time for the tournament, and participants and spectators enjoyed blue skies.
All weekend long, spectators enjoyed the games, a live deejay, food from Compass Grille, a live performance by local band Area 56 and more.
Out of the 14 teams that attended the tournament, six were comprised of local players and the rest traveled from out of the region. “Cleats and Cleavages”, from Coeur d’Alene, won the tournament and was presented with a limited-edition bat from Joey.
“I’m in such disbelief of the generosity of people,” Joey said in a statement. “I don’t know what I did to deserve such support and love from everyone around me. I am truly one humble guy and can’t thank everyone enough. I love my community and everyone in it. I’m beyond grateful and blessed for everyone and everything done, I don’t know what I’d do without the support.”
