False motorcycle accident wastes county resources
BONNERS FERRY — On Aug. 1, at about 9:30 p.m., Boundary County dispatch received a “911” call where the caller reported a fatal motorcycle accident in the Keno Creek and Deer Creek area.
Due to poor phone reception, the call was lost and specific information was unable to be obtained. Sheriffs Deputies, Boundary County Search and Rescue, Bonners Ferry Police, Curley Creek Fire and Boundary Ambulance, responded to the area to attempt to locate the accident.
No accident scene was located, and at approximately 4 a.m., the search was suspended.
At 8 a.m., the search for the accident scene resumed with Search and Rescue, Deputies and U.S. Forest Service searching the area. At the same time, other deputies conducted interviews in an attempt to identify possible victims and witnesses.
By 1:30 p.m., after making many contacts, conducting numerous interviews and traveling hundreds of miles, it was determined that there never was a motorcycle accident, nobody had been injured and there had not been a fatality.
The Sheriff’s Office will be reviewing the case with the Boundary County Prosecutor to determine if charges will be filed for making the false report to law enforcement, causing a vast amount of resources to be spent unnecessarily.
According to Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer, "It is very frustrating when valuable resources are wasted for a false report."
