Man shoots at brother, faces assault charges
BONNERS FERRY — Jon Gustaf White faces aggravated assault charges for shooting at his brother Peter White and driving while under the influence with an arraignment hearing on Aug. 18.
On July 17, Boundary County Sheriffs Deputy Michael Valenzuela responded to a report of a male firing his gun and yelling in the roadway near Humboldt Drive and Smith Lake Road.
Valenzuela arrived on scene and spotted Jon standing at the end of the driveway. When asked about what happened, Jon responded that he was made aware of people staying on the property belonging to his mother.
According to Valenzuela, Jon claimed his firearm went off after dropping it from getting out of his vehicle and spotted someone in the shed and shot several times in that direction.
Valenzuela noted the strong smell of alcohol coming from Jon and asked if he had been drinking. Jon responded by saying he had some beers last night.
Jon’s brother Peter was able to speak to Valenzuela and informed him that he and his friend Albert Livzey woke up to Jon shooting at them.
Peter stated Jon was aware of his residency at the shed because he was doing work on the property for their mother.
Additionally, Peter said Jon was yelling at him, calling him a “tweaker,” shooting multiple times with a rifle and a handgun; Peter believed his brother would shoot him.
Livzey didn’t press charges, but Peter stated he would like to press charges against his brother Jon.
Valenzuela located several shell casings in the driveway for a 10 mm handgun and a .22 long rifle casings.
“Where Peter was standing, I located what appeared to be an area where a bullet struck the dirt behind where Peter was standing,” Valenzuela said in the court record.
Valenzuela could also identify multiple bullet impacts to a vehicle and retrieved a black Glock 20 and a Ruger 10-22 from Jon’s vehicle.
Jon agreed and failed a field sobriety evaluation conducted by Valenzuela, who took Jon into custody for aggravated assault.
