Why all of the secrecy on the library?

| August 26, 2021 1:00 AM

The Bonners Ferry Herald appears to be AWOL regarding the situation at the Boundary County Library. The library is now open, but it was closed for months without explanation while employees continued to be paid. Community members/taxpayers have a right to know why things happened the way they did.

The story is newsworthy. Yet the only news source to carry the story is Mike Weland of 9B News. Why is that? The library board has been less than forthcoming with information. We ask them questions, yet they refuse to answer. Isn’t that something journalists do – search for the facts, get to the bottom of things?

I don’t care for the salacious details. But I feel that as a taxpayer I have the right to answers about the budget and other library matters without the presence of police or the board’s attorney.

The whole matter needs transparency and accountability. The Herald could help shine light on it.
