BCLD increasing checkout limits
Boundary County Library District is increasing its number of checkouts.
Acting on library staff recommendations, the library board voted to increase the number of bar-coded items families can check out at any one time. As a result, they can now check out 50 items instead of the 45 previously allowed.
The board also voted to double the number of DVDs a household can check out at any one time from four to eight. They also voted to increase the penalty-free grace period for overdue items from three business days to five business days. No fines are charged for holidays, Sundays, or any other day the library is closed for business.
These changes were made to allow families to better meet the educational needs of their children as well as allow residents of all ages to access more of the library’s growing collection of documentaries and other popular productions that count as multiple DVDs because of the number of discs per title. BCLD officials said they understand the impact the rising cost of living, especially fuel and food, has on many community members, especially those living on fixed and/or limited incomes.
These increases in both the number of DVDs and the extended grace period are intended to make sure everyone can still enjoy full use of library materials in spite of the rising cost of living, in spite of not having any internet connectivity at home, and in spite of the challenges of a north Idaho winter.
