STANFIELD, Ore. — Boys Badgers basketball traveled last weekend to Eastern Oregon to play Stanfield and LaGrande, finishing the weekend with a win and a loss.

On Saturday, Dec. 18, the Badgers played the Stanfield Tigers, claiming a 71-47 win.

“We played a well-coached 2A team,” said head coach Nathan Williams. “The Badgers executed the first quarter well with some great ball movement and open shots.

Asher Williams had 14 points in the opening quarter and the Badgers led 20-8. Thomas Bateman added nine points in the second quarter to lead the Badgers into halftime with a 36-21 cushion.

In the second half, the Badgers kept pace and outscored Stanfield 32-25, getting strong contributions from Riley Petesch and Thomas Bateman.

Asher Williams led the Badgers with 22 points, while Thomas Bateman added 14 and Riley Petesch chipped in 10.

“It was a great team effort with unselfish basketball and good overall ball movement,” Williams said.

The win saw the Badgers bounce back from a loss Friday, Dec. 17, when they took on the LaGrande High School Tigers.

“We jumped on them quickly and played well, sharing the basketball and getting good shots,” Williams said.

The Badgers withstood five charges and kept up with LaGrande until the fourth quarter, when the Tigers hit four deep 3-pointers and pulled away in the last few minutes.

Asher Williams led the Badgers with 19 points and Braeden Blackmore added 14.
