Girl Badgers beat Spartans 63-18 and fall to Kellogg 53-25

BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers girls basketball team laid the smackdown on the Priest River Spartans Tuesday Dec. 21, winning 63-18.
Braylyn Bayer made five of her eight three-pointers. Markynn Pluid was on fire with 13 points and five rebounds. Asha Abubakari smashed the board with 18 points, 10 of which came in the third quarter.
The Badgers returned from halftime looking to score. In the third quarter, the Badgers scored 22 points, but were only 11 for 28 attempts at the basket. They out rebounded the Spartans, having several attacks on the basket per possession and forced several Spartan turnovers.
Head coach Travis Hinthorn said that the Badgers need to come out ready like that no matter who they play.
The Badgers held the Spartans to score a high of only six points per quarter. In the fourth quarter, Marisa Shottanana-Ponce and Kara Villaluz made magic happen with quick looks to the basket and assists to each other.

The Badgers fell to the Wildcats Tuesday, Dec. 14, final score 53-25.
In the first league game the Badgers struggled to score in the first half only making three of 17 field goals and making four of 15 free throw attempts.
“We weren’t taking bad shots, we just couldn’t get them to fall tonight,” said head coach Travis Hinthorn. “You have to give credit to Kellogg’s defense. We rushed a lot of our shots because of their pressure.”
In the first quarter, the game was frantic on both sides as the ball was turned over and stolen again and again. It wasn’t until four minutes into the first quarter that the Wildcats got in their groove and their shots were on target.
At the half, the Badgers faced a 13-point deficit, 23-10. The Badgers came back from the locker room looking for a fight and matched the Wildcats for 12 points in the quarter, but the deficit of 13 was still there.
In the fourth, the Badgers only scored three points and against Kellogg’s 18. Final score 53-25 favoring Kellogg. Badgers are 5-4 for the season.
