100 Years Ago

The funeral of Albert French, who dropped dead Saturday afternoon at the Simonds Drug Store corner, was held Monday afternoon at the Stookey Undertaking Parlors, the services being conducted by Rev. A.A. Morton interment was held in the Grandview Cemetery. French had recently worked at Perry Wilson’s logging camp in the Leonia district.

The Bonners Ferry High School basketball team dealt out defeat to its ancient rival, the Sandpoint team last Friday evening to the tune of 24 to 5 on the local floor.

The home talent comedy, “The King of Tim-buck-too,” staged at the Amazon Theatre Monday and Tuesday nights. for the benefit of the Boy Scouts of Boundary County, was not the success that was anticipated. Only a small audience attended.

An attempted burglary was reported over the weekend at DeHart Drug and Jewelry Store in downtown Bonners Ferry. Police Chief Don Hamilton reported the burglar, or burglars, were apparently frightened away as they left a rusty crowbar wedged in the back door after tearing off the lock.

Congressman James McClure announced today the nomination of two Bonners Ferry youths to the military academies. Bruce Faber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Monk Faber, was nominated to the Air Force Academy, and David McLeish, son of Marie McLeish, was nominated to the Military Academy at West Point.

Winter starts today, December 21, and the heavy snowfall last night caused the cancellation of all Boundary County District 101 schools today.

After a windstorm roared through North Idaho, western Montana and eastern Washington last Thursday and Friday and made a mess of area utility systems, it knocked out power to almost 60,000 people around North Idaho.

Boundary Community Hospital received notice of its achievement for receiving the highest score in the small hospital category in Blue Cross Idaho’s first annual Hospital Quality Program for 2005.

A.J. Bennett and Ryan Winebark scored 11 points each as Bonners Ferry defeated Clark Fork in the championship game of the Newport Holiday Classic on Saturday night.
