Bonners Ferry becomes newest “Gig-speed City”

| December 30, 2021 1:00 AM

Ziply Fiber has announced its ultra-high-speed, 100-percent fiber-optic network is ready for service in the community, starting Dec. 29, enabling “Gig-speed” or Gigabit fiber connectivity to nearly 500 residences and businesses.

Ziply Fiber officials said the company will continue its work over the next several weeks and, by the time the construction is complete, fiber connectivity will be available to more than 1,500 locations, giving area residents access to the company’s ultra-fast fiber internet and phone services.

“Ziply Fiber operates under the belief that you shouldn’t have to live in a big city to have the best possible internet network,” said Harold Zeitz, CEO of Ziply Fiber. “We are proud to continue our mission of bringing fiber to more than one million homes and businesses across the Northwest with our recent investment in Bonners Ferry,”

The service comes with no data caps and no annual contracts for residential users. Those who wish to check their address for fiber availability, or who would like to sign-up to be alerted when fiber internet is available, can register at ziplyfiber.com/bonnersferry.

Ziiply officials said the Bonners Ferry work is part of the company’s commitment to invest more than $500 million over the next two to three years to build an advanced, 100-percent fiber network to communities across the Northwest that have been underserved when it comes to internet access. The company has been actively building fiber across the Northwest since June 2020 and has plans to build and deploy new fiber-optic cables, local hubs, new offices, and new hardware to run the network as part of hundreds of additional projects across its 250,000-square-mile footprint.
